Dash and Lily's Book of Dares

Title: Dash and Lily's Book of Dares
Author: David Levithan and Rachel Cohn
Pages: 260 pages

Summary (from Goodreads):

"I've left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don't, put the book back on the shelf, please."

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the "New York Times" bestselling authors of "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist." Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

Review:

I don't know if I should declare myself as a writer or not. I mean, I like writing stories, and one of them was included in an anthology, and I'm not a Goodreads Author. And I don't know; imagining myself as an author doesn't feel right.

And why am I telling you this?

Dash and Lily's Book of Dares was something I wish I'd written. I'd actually written a few short-stories like it (yes, there's some romance. Don't judge, I'm a sucker for romance), yet I'd never come up with an idea of a boy found a red moleskine in his favorite bookstore, and there was some clues in the notebook. It was written by a girl, whose brother had a way to find his sister a boyfriend, since it was Christmas and their parents were out of town while the brother was busy with his boyfriend and the sister felt alone. The girl's name was Lily, and the boy who found her notebook's name was Dash.

I love Dash and Lily in a same way like I love Ed and Lucy from Graffiti Moon. Lily reminded me of Lucy, while Lucy reminded me of Lily. Maybe if they met somehow, they'd have got along, and I'm not sure about their boyfriends. x)

There's no need to say Dash and Lily's voice were different, because--in case if you haven't known--Dash's POV was written by David Levithan, whose book I've read was only The Lover's Dictionary before this one. And Lily's POV was written by Rachel Cohn. They have written books together before, like Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List. Man, I'm looking forward to read those books! And writing with another writer has just given myself an idea. Anyone? XD

I wasn't disappointed! I'd even recommend this for you who wouldn't mind reading some contemporary romance for YA.

"You think fairy tales are only for girls? Here's a hint - ask yourself who wrote them. I assure you, it wasn't just the women. It's the great male fantasy - all it takes is one dance to know that she's the one. All it takes is the sound of her song from the tower, or a look at her sleeping face. And right away you know - this is the girl in your head, sleeping or dancing or singing in front of you. Yes, girls want their princes, but boys want their princesses just as much. And they don't want a very long courtships. They want to know immediately.”
